Rita Ro – MILK

I can honestly say this is one of the coolest albums I’ve heard in a long time. I learned about it while reaching out to people on facebook about my Manasota vinyl project. One of those people I sent a message to was Rita Ro. She said she’d check it out and shared her music with me too. I checked it out and I’m glad I did. I’m actually pretty shocked this doesn’t have more support on Bandcamp. Let’s see if we can change that? Rita’s song structures combine a tribal feel with modern electronics, field recordings, piano, guitars, melody harp, mexican flute, synths, harmonium, toy violin, programmed and live drums, and dreamy vocals. Despite the use of electronics, the overall feel of MILK is incredibly organic. It’s very experimental, but at the same time is incredibly accessible and catchy. There’s a balance of elements rarely captured in modern music. There’s a real sense of nature that comes through and her vocals are equal parts haunting and memorable. Excellently produced and skillfully performed, Ro has a true talent and this one is definitely worth the price of download.
