Candstandya – Slow Motions

Candstandya - Slow Motions

Squelching tones resonate with distant echos into a pillow of sound on the LP, Slow Motions, by Candstandya. Originally released on the Just Not Normal netlabel in 2010. This is a really great ambient release that pulls you deep into a dream-like soundscape that is somewhat reminiscent of the later works of Steve Roach at times, but teeters on the industrial realms of the Eraserhead soundtrack at others. Midway through there’s a slightly out of tune, almost 90s indie guitar interlude that somehow works as a transitional section into the really immersive final three songs. Not quite all the way dark, but not quite on the light either, the scale tips both ways at different times during the included eight tracks. There is a sense of mystery to the music that makes it an excellent cinematic backdrop for late night subway rides or driving down an empty road in the evening.
